Zeenie Scholz sends this info about an upcoming event at the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson:
The National Museum of Wildlife Art presents "Into Africa: Kenya's Wildlife and the Impact of Human Conflict," with Willis Okech Oyugi, on Tuesday, Feb. 17, for Art After Hours. The program takes place at 7 p.m. in the Museum's Cook Auditorium.
A pioneer member of the Kenya Professional Safari Guides Association (KPSGA), Willis Okech has already devoted most of his life to environmental and conservation subjects -- an interest fostered by his father who guided safaris for over 30 years. A naturalist with the renowned East African Ornithological Safaris (now renamed Origins Safaris), he is an avid birder, naturalist, and an accomplished, award-winning photographer. Oyugi specializes in leading ornithological, wildlife, nature photography, mountaineering, and, recently, gorilla trekking safaris. He serves on several wildlife committees in Kenya, including the East Africa Bird Committee and Bird Rarities Committee.
Oyugi is currently a doctoral student at the University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA) with a focus on African Environmental History. He plans to contribute to the academic field and to help promote African environmental and conservation policy change, while continuing his career in guiding. Oyugi's unique perspective and sincere commitment to his homeland are sure to make for an inspiring evening at the Museum.
Art After Hours and Tapas Tuesdays are presented by the Dragicevich Foundation, co-sponsored by Valerie & Richard Beck.
