Helen B. Louise has been named the new manager of the Wyoming State Museum. Louise is the former director of the South Dakota State Museum and will begin her new duties Aug. 8.
“Helen was chosen to lead the Wyoming State Museum within a very competitive field of candidates,” Cultural Resources Administrative Sara Needles said. “I believe Helen’s enthusiasm and experience will bring welcome inspiration and vision to the Wyoming State Museum.”
Louise is a graduate of the Cooperstown Graduate Program in History Museum Studies, a part of the State University of New York. She graduated cum laude in Anthropology from the University of Washington (Seattle) and is a former executive director of the Kitsap County Historical Society Museum located in Bremerton, Washington.
“History museums play a vital role in today’s society,” Louise said. “I firmly believe in the old saying, ‘If you don’t know where you’ve been, you won’t know where you are going.’
While preserving history for current and future generations, history museums serve as a community partner that can teach better citizenship and can build a brighter, more tolerant and hopeful future.”
