Casper College Contemporary Singers perform Nov. 16

The Casper College Contemporary Singers will present their Autumn Jazz Concert on Wednesday, Nov. 16 at the Lai Tai Restaurant beginning at 5 p.m.

The singers, who in the past have performed with the rest of the Casper College choirs performed on their own last spring at the Lai Tai. “The concert was very successful, and Li Ta, the owner of the Lai Tai really likes jazz, hence this gig,” said Patrick Patton, voice and choir instructor.

“This concert situation forces the members to work on solos as well as choir pieces, understand the style of jazz, and properly address the bandstand. So this becomes an educational experience for them in a setting appropriate for jazz,” Patton said.

Patton noted that those who stop by will hear the singers present vocal jazz music from the standard favorites repertoire. “The Contemporary Singers have prepared choral vocal jazz for everyone’s listening pleasure including contemporary arrangements of samba music, songs from the swing sound, some funky stuff, and even some neat ballads. In addition, each singer will present a solo from the standard jazz literature, and our rhythm section will play one of their tunes as well as support the singers in all the tunes they present.”

There will be no cover charge and the public is encouraged to stop by anytime during the evening. The Lai Tai is located at 303 S. Wolcott in downtown Casper.
