In anticipation of upcoming guest author Gary Snyder at March’s "Page to the Podium" program, join library staff member Julia Hysell for a two-day workshop on Feb. 6 and March 5 to be held at Thai Me Up restaurant.
Explore the “rucksack revolution” described in Jack Kerouac’s best-selling novel, "The Dharma Bums" (1958), which features a young Gary Snyder as the model for Japhy Ryder, the novel’s hero and proposed leader of the revolution. Read "The Dharma Bums," a fictionalized version of historical events associated with Beat poets in the 1950s, in tandem with Snyder’s original poetry and essays including: “Buddhism and the Coming Revolution,” “Migration of Birds,” and “The Berry Feast.”
Programs are free. Registration required; space is limited! A free copy of “The Dharma Bums” will be given to the first 10 registrants. To register, contact Adult Humanities Coordinator, Oona Doherty, 733-2164 ext. 135, firstname.lastname@example.org.
