The Stevens County Historical Society and Museum in Morris, Minnesota has placed a call for artists for its third annual Horizontal Grandeur juried fine arts show. This year's show will open July 10th and run through October 30th, 2009. Participation in the Horizontal Grandeur exhibition is open to North American artists who reside in a state or province with a prairie and all pieces must be related to the prairie in some way.
Word is spreading about this annual event and the historical society has already received inquiries from artists in several states with short, mixed and tall grass prairies. In 2008 scores of artists, one from as far away as British Columbia submitted sixty-three entries. This year the historical society is hoping for an even wider participation.
Submissions are due by May 8th. Bill Holms' essay, Horizontal Granduer is the inspiration for the theme. To clarify the theme further, Randee Hokanson, Executive Director of the historical society asks everyone to remember that, "The prairie is more than just a flat expanse of grassland, look with your prairie eye, for textures, colors, forms and the broad expanse that prairie presents, that horizontal grandeur."
Submission guidelines, a downloadable brochure or on-line submission form can be found on a special website created for this exhibition through the Horizontal Grandeur Link at http://www.stevenshistorymuseum.com. You can also contact the museum at 320-589-1719 or email grandeur@stevenshistorymuseum.com for clarification or to request a brochure containing the submission guidelines.
