Artist and one-time WAC intern Fred Schmechel sends this:
The University of Wyoming art department in Laramie will be hosting an iron pour this Saturday, October 17. Burn-in of the cupola will begin around 10 a.m., with the first tapping and pouring occurring around noon. The pour is expected to last until at least 5 p.m., although the pour will be over when the pour is over!
Student and faculty work from UW, along with similar work from schools in Fort Hays, Kan.; Denver; and Missoula, Mont., will be poured.
Friends, family, and anyone else who is interested in this incredible process are more than welcome to become more than just spectators by purchasing a scratch block for $5. These scratch blocks will then be poured throughout the afternoon as available.
The pour will take place on the southeast corner of the Fine Arts building on the UW campus (don't worry too much about parking as this weekend's football match-up is an away game). Currently the temperamental Wyoming weather is expected to be around 61 degrees and sunny for the event.
