UW Symphony Orchestra Opens Oct. 8

The University of Wyoming Symphony Orchestra (UWSO), directed by Michael Griffith, opens its 2009-10 season Thursday, Oct. 8, with a performance that includes three works that define romanticism in music.
The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center concert hall. Tickets cost $10 for adults, $7 for senior citizens and $6 for students. Tickets are available at the Fine Arts Center and Wyoming Union box offices, on the Internet at www.uwyo.edu/finearts or by calling (307) 766-6666.

The UWSO will be joined by trumpet soloist Scott Meredith, one of the newest members of the UW music faculty. Meredith, also the principal trumpet for the Wyoming Symphony in Casper and Opera Fort Collins, teaches applied trumpet, jazz techniques and jazz history at UW.

Griffith, who has led orchestras throughout the Rocky Mountain region and as far away as Brazil, is beginning his 21st year UWSO conductor.
