The ARTCORE Music & Poetry Series presents musician Kenny Garrett and writer Susan Anderson on Monday, Aug. 11, 7:30 p.m., at The Jazz Spot in Casper.
Kenny Garrett is a Casper native who has, for the last thirty plus years, traveled and played music throughout the United States, Europe, and the Middle East, touring with regional and national artists, as well as with his own groups.
Growing up in Casper, Kenny has been involved with various musical experiences, including the Casper Troopers, in addition to owning Casper Music. He has been on hundreds of recording projects, including Rand McNally Video Trips for the Discovery Channel, soundtracks for commercials, and demos. He co-wrote the Wyoming Centennial Song, We Are Wyoming, with Don Jackson and Tom Stanko.
Susan Anderson writes a weekly column, "Living in Wyoming" in the Casper Journal. The column has won two National Newspaper awards, one for humor and one for human interest. It focuses on the human details of life in Wyoming, from profiles of people with great stories to tell to essays on life with kids and dachshunds. She is the author of the nonfiction book Living in Wyoming with photographer Zbigniew Bzdak and an updated second edition, Living in Wyoming—Trails Edition.
In addition to writing, Anderson has been a journalist in broadcast and print, working as editor of the Casper Journal for five years. For many years she was news director and hosted the weekly television interview program Report to Wyoming at KTWO Television. Before moving to Wyoming, she was a television producer and reporter in San Francisco.
