At the Fort Bridger State Historic Site on Friday, August 8, the new Jim Bridger bronze statue will be unveiled to the public. Admission to the site is free during the entire day.
The Fort Bridger Museum opens 10 a.m. At 3 p.m., Jim Bridger descendant Bobby Bridger (shown in photo), singer, songwriter, actor and author, performs "Ballad of the West." At 6 p.m., the statue by noted sculptor David Clark will be dedicated. This will include a presentation by keynote speaker Dudley Gardner, Ph.D., professor of History and Political Science at Western Wyoming Community College.
Clark, a 1977 graduate of Green River High School, has his own studio in Lander. The Bridger statue was cast this spring at the Eagle Bronze foundry in Lander.
Other festivities feature a variety of entertainment, kids’ games, refreshments, speakers and historic presentations. Costumed interpreters will be on hand in the historic buildings of the fort. Also, a variety of entertainment on Officer’s Row will be provided including displays of Victorian Women’s Clothing and Springfield rifle demonstrations.
