Public invited to attend Wyoming Arts Council Board events Nov. 8-9 in Riverton

The Wyoming Arts Council (WAC) will hold its quarterly board meeting in Riverton Nov. 8-9. The meeting will be held at the Fremont County Library on Thursday from 1-4:45 p.m. and on Friday from 8:30 a.m. until business is concluded.

Agenda items include: Review and discussion of the nominations for the 2012 Governor’s Arts Awards, progress report on the WAC’s community development and the arts program; update on the new communications strategy; review of grant programs; and discussion of upcoming WAC-sponsored events.

The board invites individuals and organizational representatives to attend any part of the meeting to observe the board process, and to address the board during the public comment session beginning at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8. Comments about the agency's policies, funding priorities, on-line granting system, and other arts-related topics are welcomed. At the conclusion of Thursday’s session, a public reception for members of the WAC Board and the greater

Fremont County community will be held from 5-6 p.m. in the Miller Community Room at the CWC

Intertribal Education and Community Center. At 7:30 p.m., everyone is invited to a jazz concert

on campus as new WAC staff member Michael Lange will be performing with CWC musicians in a jazz

Governor Matt Mead announces appointments to Wyoming Arts Council board

Governor Matt Mead has appointed two new board members and two returning members to the Wyoming Arts Council Board.

New board members are Erin Taylor of Cheyenne, Executive Director of the Wyoming Taxpayers Association, and Casper’s Holly Turner, Executive Director of the Trails Center Foundation and past Executive Director of both the Nicolaysen Arts Museum and the Wyoming Symphony Orchestra.

Reappointed board members are Janelle Fletcher-Kilmer of Laramie and Neil Hansen of Powell. Fletcher-Kilmer is Director of Fine Arts Outreach at the University of Wyoming. Hansen is Chairman of the Music Department at Northwest College.

Stepping down from the board are artist and retired arts educator Ila Miller of Aladdin and David Neary, Lander, Technical Director of the Wyoming Shakespeare Festival Company.

“I thank Ila and David for their service and dedication to the arts in Wyoming,” Governor Mead said. “The arts enrich the lives of everyone and this Board has an important role in fostering both the arts and artists in Wyoming. I am pleased to have Erin and Holly join the board and that Janelle and Neil are willing to stay on. They are all contributing time, talent and energy to promote arts in Wyoming.”

The Wyoming Arts Council Board is made up of 10 members who are appointed by the Governor for three-year terms. The board serves in an advisory capacity to the Wyoming Arts Council, and makes determinations on grants awards.

Other board members are:  Karen Stewart, Board Chair from Jackson; Duane Evenson, Gillette; Bruce Richardson, Casper; Chessney Sevier, Buffalo; Leslie Shinaver, Afton; and Tara Taylor, Mountain View.

Wyoming Cultural Trust Fund seeks new board member

From Renee Bovee, Wyoming Cultural Trust Fund Administrator: The Wyoming Cultural Trust Fund will be seeking a replacement for one of our board members whose term will expire in March 2013. The WCTF has a unique appointment process, in that nominations are made by either the State Parks and Cultural Resources Commission (SPCR) or the Wyoming Arts Council Board to the Governor of Wyoming for a board appointee. Board candidates should have a general interest in or a background of service to any of the following disciplines: arts, history, humanities, archaeology or other related disciplines. Wyoming Arts Council board holds winter meeting Feb. 23-24 in Cheyenne

The Wyoming Arts Council (WAC) will hold its next quarterly board meeting on Feb. 23-24, at Little America in Cheyenne.

The WAC board invites individuals and organizational representatives to attend any part of the meeting to observe the board process, and to address the board during the public comment session at 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 24. Comments about the agency's policies, funding priorities, on-line granting system, and other arts-related topics are welcomed.

At the meeting, WAC board members will approve the slate of 2012-2013 roster artists, evaluate and award Community Arts Partnership (CAP) grants, review and approve the new Communication Plan for the Arts Council, evaluate progress on the agency’s long range plan, and discuss the 2010 statistics for the Wyoming Creative Vitality Index (CVI). 

Presentations to the Board will include Warehouse Twenty One’s Communication Plan proposal; the Director of Beet Street from Fort Collins, CO will present information on professional development opportunities for Wyoming’s artists and arts organizations; and the Western States Arts Federation (WESTAF) regional arts organization will update the board on their current programs.

On Friday at noon, WAC Board members will attend the Wyoming Arts Alliance’s Arts Advocacy Day with Legislators at the Herschler Building. They will also attend the 30^th annual Governor’s Arts Awards event will be held beginning at 6 p.m. Friday at Little America.

UW Community Development team offers board governance training April 28 in Cody

This comes from Cole Ehmke at the University of Wyoming Cooperative Extension Service.

For everyone who works with boards, UW's Community Development team is bringing in a speaker for a training on board governance. The training is in Cody at the Cody Hotel on April 28. Cost is $150 (lunch included).

Our team is increasingly working with and developing materials for boards around the state, so we're looking forward to the training. Also, Cody is a great place to visit. Come a day early and go to the Buffalo Bill Historical Center museums.
