I was invited to sculptor David Alan Clark’s Lander studio last week to have a look at his current work in progress: a life-sized tribute to the western sheep industry. The installation, commissioned by the Rock Springs Community Closet, will feature a sheepherder with horse, dog and small flock of ewes. This public art project is due for installation later this fall.
David invited me to have a look at the animals, knowing that I live with sheep and might be able to see anything that didn’t seem authentic. Of course, he had done extensive homework and my trip was really more to admire the pieces, which are magnificent and will soon proceed to the bronze foundry.
