Lone Wyoming audition for Troopers Drum & Bugle Corps this weekend in Cheyenne

The only Wyoming audition for the 2013 Troopers Drum & Bugle Corps — brass, percussion and color guard — will be held Friday evening through Sunday at Cheyenne’s Storey Gym.

“Anyone interested still has time to register on our website,” corps director Fred Morris said. Other camps are being held this month in Texas, Las Vegas and Daytona Beach, Fla.

The elite 150 people chosen will represent Wyoming’s 55-year tradition of participation in the world class drum and bugle corps activity.

Selection at audition camps is based on musical ability, positive attitude, time commitment and the ability to meet financial requirements.

Even if summer participation is uncertain at this point, students who are interested are encouraged to attend a camp. Each member receives an evaluation at the end of the weekend with suggestions for improvement and an assessment of placement within the corps.

The nonrefundable fee to audition is $75, and the camp fee is $50 for meals, facilities and miscellaneous expenses. Tuition for the 2013 season is $2,550, payable on a monthly schedule January through August.

Auditions for the "Lunch Box Lady Musical," sponsored by Laramie County Community College, will be held Sept. 11 and 12 from 4 to 7 p.m. at LCCC’s Playhouse theater in Cheyenne. Children kindergarten to 7th grade, teenagers and adults are encouraged to audition. Those who audition need only to show up. Auditions will include reading scenes from the musical and singing. 

The "Lunch Box Lady Musical" is based on a children’s book that celebrates kindness, nutrition and creativity. 

Once the show is cast, rehearsals will be held M, T, W, TR at LCCC’s Playhouse Theatre from 4:30 to 6:30 pm starting the third week of Sept. for the following six weeks.

UW Theatre for Young Audiences holds auditions on June 6

Children ages 8-17 are invited to audition Wednesday, June 6, for a University of Wyoming Theatre for Young Audiences production of "Evo-Cete: The Big Blue Journey."

The auditions will be held from noon-3 p.m. and from 6-8 p.m. in the UW Fine Arts Building Mains Dance Studio. The production calls for three speaking parts -- evolution sister (a talking robot), Sea Queen and a pirate -- with the remaining cast members performing different styles of dance ranging from hip-hop to classical.

Callbacks are scheduled at 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday, June 8-9. Those selected will rehearse for approximately two hours daily June 13-14, June 18-21, June 25-28 and July 9-12. The public performances will be July 13 at 7:30 p.m. and July 14 at 2:30 p.m. in the College of Education auditorium.

Produced by the UW departments of Theatre and Dance and Geology and Geophysics, the performance is an educational program using dance, puppetry and drama to teach young people about the evolution of the whale. Veteran dance choreographer Wendy de la Harpe directs the production. She hopes to use at least 40-50 students in the production, and encourages both experienced dancers and kids with little or no dance experience to audition.

Cecilia Aragon, UW Theatre and Dance associate professor, and Mark Clementz, associate professor of Geology and Geophysics, are co-creators of the Evo-Cete project and have collaborated as producers. UW playwriting student Jeremy Smith wrote "Evo-Cete: The Big Blue Journey."

Zombie auditions set for Casper, Cheyenne and Laramie

If you missed the Laramie and Casper showings of the short film “Undead Lovers,” you will soon have a chance to view it online. The film is being entered in the Wyoming Short Film Contest and along with other films will be viewable on their website: www.wyomingshortfilmcontest.com. The short, filmed in Laramie and Medicine Bow features Jalan Crossland’s song of the same title and stars Wyoming talent. Thanks to the success of fundraising campaigns on Kickstarter and IndieGoGo, “Undead Lovers” has been a smash at the Cheyenne Zombie Fest, Ft, Collins Zombie Crawl, Flic Boulder, Might & Fright Fest at the Long Beach Comic & Horror Con, and Shockfest/Mockfest at Raleigh Studios in Los Angeles.

The short is part of the larger, full-length film project “From the Trailer to the Grave.”

“The success of the short has created great interest and we can now start firming up plans for the full-length film,” stated Executive Producer K. Harrison Sweeney.

A graduate of the University of Wyoming, Sweeney was recently awarded an Individual Artists’ Professional Development grant by the Wyoming Arts Council for the project.

“The goal is to shoot the film mostly in Wyoming and we are looking for Wyomingites to be part of the film,” continued Sweeney.

The principles of the movie have already been cast and you may have recently seen some of the stars in their current projects: Brad Carter was just in "House"; Lindsay Goranson's "Theatre Bizarre" horror anthology opened in theaters in January; Mark Fite co-starred with Oscar winner Marion Cotillard in "L.A.dy Dior;” Ken Campbell brought the cast of Fox's "Herman's Head" back together for the spoof "Herman Cain's Head" which soared through the roof as Funny on the website "Funny Or Die;" Jim Turner appeared on an episode of "The Big Bang Theory" in January; Sean Cook shot an episode of "Grimm" in Portland, Paul Schweiggert makes his big screen debut in Disney's "Big Miracle;" Missy Moore is still making headlines in the Denver theatre scene; and local Casper actresses Pat Pulitzer and Dawn Anderson are rehearsing for Stage III productions. K. Harrison Sweeney has also been busy and will be making his big screen debut in several one-on-one scenes with Eddie Murphy in Paramount Pictures' "A Thousand Words" coming out in April.

Although the principles have been cast, locals need not despair. According to Sweeney several supporting roles will be open to Wyomingites. Auditions in Casper, Cheyenne, and Laramie will be held during Valentine's Day week. Most of the roles that are available will be for zombies and people who turn into zombies.

“We are looking for people from all walks of life – oil tycoons, teachers, children, roller derby dames, politicians; all are encouraged to try out,” continued Sweeney.

Auditions in Casper will be held on Sunday, February 12, at the Wagon Wheel Roller Skating Rink at 305 Van Horn Ave. There will be a workshop on "Zombie Behavior & Movement" from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Auditions will then be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

We'll start the Cheyenne workshop from 3-3:30 p.m at the Atlas Theatre on Wednesday, February 15. Latecomers will not be admitted. Auditions will commence immediately thereafter from 3:30-5 p.m. Latecomers will not be admitted.

The Laramie workshop on Sunday, Feb. 19, will go from 5-5:30 p.m. at the University of Wyoming's College of Agriculture auditorium. Latecomers will not be admitted. Auditions will commence immediately thereafter from 5:30-8 p.m. Latecomers will not be admitted.

“Nothing need be prepared, but latecomers to either event will not be admitted, so show up early,” stated Sweeney. Producers will be taking their own pictures and screen testing with cold readings. While not everybody will be needed for the entirety of the film's shoot, anybody planning on attending should be prepared to fill out their availability for the last three weeks of September and the first week of October.

Missoula Children's Theatre holds auditions Jan. 9 for Riverton production of "Snow White"

K-12 students are invited to audition for the local production of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” by the Missoula Children’s Theatre.

MCT is auditioning K-12 students on Monday, Jan. 9 beginning at 3:30 p.m. at Ashgrove School for the 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14 performance at the Robert A. Peck Arts Center at Central Wyoming College.

Auditions for CLTP's "Tumbling Inn" Aug. 30-31

Auditions for "Tumbling Inn," the winning script by Carrie Printz in the Cheyenne Little Theatre Players' "New Play Project," will be held on Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 30-31, 6:30 p.m., at the Historic Atlas Theatre in downtown Cheyenne. This is a CLTP Readers' Theatre production.

Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.

Synopsis: Jamie is a teen-age tennis champion who talks to the sky. Her best friend Nick can't seem to stay out of trouble. When the two run away to a B&B in the Colorado Rockies, they bring together an unlikely quartet who must face an impending disaster while dealing with broken family relationships and a crime that may unravel their lives.

Adult auditions for "The Sound of Music" will be held Tuesday, Aug. 3, 6 p.m., at the Mary Godfrey Playhouse in Cheyenne. Director is Toni Tomei. Choreographer is Russell Rose. Musical Director/Conductor: Dave Kramer

From the Director: Auditions will be held in groups of no more than 10 individuals at a time on-stage and closed to the public. This will allow each actor to have more of a "moment" with the Directors and Choreographer. The Stage Management team will be in the lobby to see that the audition is run smoothly, and answer any questions you may have. Please bring your resume and 8 x 10 photo (if you have one) to attach to the audition sheet that you will fill out. Please note: any current photo will do.

You will be seen in the order that you arrive at the theater.

Audition Requirements: Prepare one standard Broadway show tune; a song from the show is fine. Please no rock opera, no singing to a tape or CD and no accapella. We need to hear you sing with the piano, even if it is Happy Birthday and singing scales. You will only read from the script and sing additional songs if you are invited to callbacks. You may be cut off during your songs if the directors have heard all they need to. This is in the interest of time.

Every attempt will be made to release the children earlier in the evening from each rehearsal they attend. Festival Orchestra holds open auditions May 22 for vocalist

Grand Teton Music Festival announced today an open audition to choose a vocal soloist to sing the national anthem with the Festival Orchestra at the Festival’s annual outdoor 4th of July community concert, Music In The Hole.

All community members with a talent for singing are invited to audition. Open Auditions will be held Saturday, May 22 at 12:30 p.m. in Walk Festival Hall, Teton Village. Sign-in begins at 11:30 a.m., auditions will begin promptly at 12:30 and be finished by 2:30 p.m. No advance registration will be accepted. Audition participants are to enter through the backstage door to Walk Festival Hall, located on the North side of the building next to the Ticket Office.

Piano accompaniment, provided by Laura Huckin, will be provided to singers in the keys of F, Ab, and Bb – singers must be able to perform the song with accompaniment in one of these three keys. A cappella auditions will not be considered. Audition hopefuls will be expected to sing “The Star Spangled Banner” once before a panel of judges, and the auditions are open to public audience – friends and family of auditioning singers may attend.

The winner will perform “The Star Spangled Banner” with the Festival Orchestra under the direction of Music Director Donald Runnicles on Sunday, July 4, 2010 at Music In The Hole. This performance opens the Festival Orchestra’s portion of the concert, which will be a program of patriotic favorites selected by popular vote.

Music In The Hole is a community program of the Grand Teton Music Festival, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and is 100% funded by community support. This annual 4th of July concert is a favorite way to celebrate Independence Day in Jackson Hole and features local musicians, recreational activities by area non-profits, and good, old-fashioned family fun all afternoon on the 4th of July.
