Pinedale’s public art initiative, IN|SITE EX|SITE, hosts an artists reception on Friday, February 8, 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Sublette County Library. Artists contributing work to the community will be honored, including Bronwyn Minton, JB Bond, Kirsten and Palmer Klarén, and Sue Sommers.

This is an Ex|Site:Incubate/3D project, which is part of the comprehensive In|Site:Ex|Site/Pinedale public art program. This project was made possible with generous support from the Town of Pinedale and the Pinedale Fine Arts Council.

We are planning an artist reception for the four projects we have installed over the past 18 months, the end of January 2013.

Pinedale Fine Arts Council Mission:

To present quality cultural and fine arts performances and workshops that appeal to people of varying interests and backgrounds.

To educate and entertain all ages, from youth to senior citizen.

To keep ticket prices affordable.

To bring culturally diverse artists to our community. 

Description: Provides professional oversight of all daytoday

functions of the Pinedale Fine Arts Council (PFAC).

Provides professional managerial and subordinate staff development. The Executive Director will serve as the public representative of PFAC and become highly visible within the Pinedale community. The Executive Director will be responsible for developing an annual budget, an annual programming calendar, and an annual report for the public. Provides significant, professional contributions to the Visual Arts Committee. Provides policy recommendations and assistance to the board of directors pertaining to PFAC operations.

Supervision: Reports directly to the Pinedale Fine Arts Council Board.

Supervision Exercised: Directly supervises all staff and volunteers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

(This list does not include all duties and responsibilities that may be assigned to this position.)

As Chief Executive of the Pinedale Fine Arts Council, set in place meaningful goals and benchmarks for staff and volunteers to attain, and establish a performance evaluation program. Evaluates staff, directs and participates in staffing decisions, manages employee training programs, coaches employees and encourages optimal performance, administrates development of goals and objectives for employees. Provide Leadership in fundraising, establishing goals and timelines while identifying potential new grants and gifts within the community at large. Maintain a high profile within the community, representing the Pinedale Fine Arts Council at Chamber of Commerce meetings, partner board meetings, and other relevant community functions. Seek out opportunities to leverage effective partnerships with others in the community to advance the mission of PFAC. Oversee the creation of a viable volunteer program within PFAC. Develop mechanisms for feedback from patrons and partners in the community through surveys, focus groups, and other methods. Attend state and regional booking conferences while serving as a liaison between PFAC and other local, state, and national arts organizations and affiliated groups. Work closely with Chair(s) of the Board of Directors on a monthly basis, keeping lines of communication open between staff and volunteers with the Board.

Desired Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience providing the skill and knowledge for successful job performance is required.

● Bachelor’s Degree with concentration in the arts or related field preferred; and

● Three (3) years professional experience working in the arts at the program director level or above

preferred; and

● Three (3) years experience in a leadership or managerial role required; and

● Interest in and appreciation of the arts is required.

Managerial/Executive Level Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

● Strong interpersonal and problem solving skills.

● Strong organizational and collaboration skills.

● Ability to manage multiple activities seamlessly and to delegate effectively.

● Experience working on and/or with Boards of Trustees/Directors

● Superb communication skills, both in writing and public speaking

● Experience working with artistic staff a plus

● Current knowledge of trends in the arts world and arts management a plus

Special Requirements:

● Valid State of Wyoming driver’s license or ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire.

Equipment and Tools Used: Personal computer, professional business software applications (MS Word,

Excel, Outlook, etc.), telephone, copier, fax machine, and other office equipment.

Pinedale Fine Arts Council presents Sound Check Mini-Music Festival

The Pinedale Fine Arts Council is proud to present the fifth annual Sound Check Mini-Music Festival on Saturday, June 30 beginning at 5 p.m. in the American Legion Park in Pinedale. The outdoor concert is free (donations appreciated) and will feature Boom Chick from Brooklyn, NY as headliners. Rounding out the bill this year will be Hymn for Her (playing middle bill) and Austin, TX alt-country duo Loves It! will open things up.

Don’t forget to bring a chair, cooler, sunscreen and shades and enjoy a great summer evening listening to three great bands in Beautiful Pinedale, Wyoming!

Cat Urbigkit's "The Guardian Team" chosen as Wyoming book for National Book Festival

Pinedale's multitalented writer and photographer Cat Urbigkit has some great news:

The Guardian Team has been selected as the Wyoming book for this year's National Book Festival, which will be held Sept. 22 & 23 in Washington, D.C.

Congrats, Cat. It's been a good year. In March, she received an honorable mention in the Wyoming Arts Council's visual arts fellowship competition.

Wyoming Roster Artist Miss "V" The Gypsy Cowbelle busy touring

The Gypsy Cowbelle is currently on her "Can't Stand Still" tour. Following up debut appearances in the Southeast on her March "Southern Exposure" tour, Miss "V" made her way back out West with performances in Michigan and South Dakota. On her way, she plowed with a team of oxen, auditioned for a movie, eluded rattlers and "The Plague" while wandering through the Badlands. The "Can't Stand Still" kicked off last Thursday at the Occidental Hotel in Buffalo; the next day, she performed for locals and residents at the Buffalo Senior Center. "Ed. note on "The Plague" reference: Wondering about what "eluding the "The Plague" referred to, I asked, "Is this the name of the movie?" Nope. On her sojurn, she often turns onto dirt roads off other dirt roads. This particular dirt road where she stopped, to sing under the full moon with her car doors flung wide open, had a posted sign, "Be advised, this area has been designated as a plague area." Not to worry, "V's" okay, adding, "I didn't handle any dead varmints and didn't get bit by any fleas."

She crossed over the Big Horns to play for a memorial service at the Lost Village Saloon outside of Red Lodge, MT. Moving on to Bozeman, an interview with Bob Butts followed the next day on KGLT, the local radio station. She has appeared on Bob's show periodically since 2008, and this time he featured tracks off her new CD release, "The Itinerant Lady" (November 2011). Then on to an interview with the Bozeman Daily Chronicle, for an article which will appear in Friday's paper.

On May 11, she will return to Norris Hot Springs to perform at 7 pm. On Saturday, "V" performs at Ted's Montana Grill in Bozeman at 7 pm, and the tour concludes with a performance at the Kountry Korner Cafe at the Four Courners, where she will be appearing at 6pm with the legendary songwriter and performer, Kostas, who has penned some of "V"s favorite songs for such icons as Dwight Yoakam, Patty Loveless and Emmy Lou Harris. Suffice to say, this opportunity will go down in her journals as one of the Great Honors of her musical career!

Back in Wyoming, look for "V" at "Voices of the Basin" Opening Reception at the Washakie County Musuem on May 31st at 5:30 pm. This is a family oriented exhibit, which tells the stories of early settlers and their families to the Big Horn Basin through oral histories from the Wahakie Museum archives. FMI on this exhibit and the Museum:  http://www.washakiemuseum.org/

Earlier this year, serendipitious for sure, while performing on the open stage at the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko, Baxter Black was in the audience catching some of the acts, and asked "V" to open for his show the next day. 2012 Visual Arts Fellowship Awards anounced by Wyoming Arts Council

At a Fellowship Awards Banquet during last weekend's CLICK! Symposium for Visual Artists in Pinedale, the Wyoming Arts Council announced the 2012 Visual Arts Fellowship Recipients and Honorable Mentions. Work by all of these artists, plus next year's Fellowship Recipients and Honorable Mentions, will be included in the next Biennial Fellowship Exhibition which will be hosted by the Nicolaysen Art Museum in Casper in the fall of 2013.

The 2012 Fellowship Recipients are:  

Joe Arnold, painter from Laramie
Chuck Kimmerle, photographer from Casper
Jenny Wuerker, painter from Buffalo

Honorable Mentions were given to: 
Suzanne Morlock from Wilson who creates sculptures from recycled materials
Cat Urbigkit, photographer from Pinedale

The Jurors for the 2012 Visual Arts Fellowships were:  
Leanne Goebel, an arts writer based in Pagosa Springs, Colo.
Napoleon Jones-Henderson, an artist, educator, activist and "Citizen of the Universe" from Boston
Karen Rogers, a gallerist and artist consultant from Santa Fe, N.M.

The jurors, who made their selections at an all-day jury process on Friday, March 30, were all impressed by the depth and breadth of the work by Wyoming artists.  From painting, sculpture, ceramics and photography through environmental art and film, the artist entries were varied and exciting.  While even the jurors were surprised at their final selection of more traditional artists this year, they were very inspired by the contemporary work being done in Wyoming.  

The three jurors, along with Lisa Hatchadoorian, Art Curator for the Nicolaysen Art Museum in Casper, held one-on-one meetings with artists and art students on Sunday morning to review the artists' work and offer constructive criticism, ideas and encouragement.

Cat Urbigkit presents "Yellowstone Wolves" at Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library Jan. 29

The Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library will host author Cat Urbigkit for a free presentation about changing public attitudes about wolves. The program, presented by the Wyoming Humanities Council as part of its Humanities Forum, will be held at the Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library on Sunday, Jan. 29, 1:30 p.m. in the library’s Inner Circle.

Drawing heavily on the first few chapters of her book, Yellowstone Wolves: A Chronicle of the Animal, the People, and the Politics, Cat will lead the audience through an examination of public attitudes about wolves relying on published literature, debunking the myth of Little Red Riding Hood’s influence by demonstrating how human interactions with wolves determine public attitudes. The author will review historic accounts from different eras of western development and look at the views expressed in those accounts.

Copies of Yellowstone Wolves and other titles by the author will be available for purchase and signing after the discussion. Cat Urbigkit is an award-winning author and photographer based on a sheep ranch near Pinedale. She writes a news blog about wolves in the northern Rocky Mountains.

CLICK! gathering kicks off an exciting series of conferences this year in Pinedale

Sam Luvisi writes in the Sublette Examiner about a series of conferences coming to Pinedale this year. One of them is “CLICK! A Weeked for Wyoming Visual Artists.” It will be held March 30-April 1 at the Sublette County Library and several other venues. Co-sponsors are the Wyoming Arts Council, Pinedale Fine Arts Council and the UW Art Museum. Sue Sommers, Pinedale artist and member of the Pipeline Art Project, was interviewed for the story. Here’s an excerpt:

“The name “CLICK!” suggests that thing that happens when you reconnect with colleagues and get inspired by new ideas, which occurs continually when Wyoming artists congregate,” said Sue Sommers, a local artist who helped organize the event, and is hoping to expand on the visibility and interconnectedness of Wyoming’s art community with those near and far – something she also tackled recently with the Pipeline Art Project.

In a showcase of real ability for local artists to survive a large-scale project, large amounts of both local and faraway support (through a competitive process the group was selected by U.S. Artists for the USA Projects “crowd funding” website) helped send local artists (including Sommers, metal sculptor JB Bond and painter David Klarén) across the country to showcase at the Red Dot Art Fair through “Pipeline to Miami.”

“We learned so much, and gained exposure and some solid ideas for showing our work outside Wyoming over the next couple of years,” she said, adding they do not expect to be “crowd funding” anytime soon – as local supporters “have done more than their share.” 

Like Pipeline, CLICK! is working alongside the Wyoming Arts Council (WAC), who shares a database of Wyoming artists and helps plan and partially fund the project. The Pipeline Art Project was awarded funding by the Wyoming Cultural Trust Fund to help expand the WAC’s annual 2012 Fellowship Awards reception with a variety of speakers and topics; there Pipeline artists will share lessons from Miami. 

During CLICK! the Pinedale Library will exhibit artwork by the five Pipeline members, with a re-created Red Dot booth on display in the Labyrinth Room. 

CLICK!, which also is organized and contributed to by University of Wyoming (UW) Art Museum and the Pinedale Fine Arts Council (PFAC), will likely host a free public “kick-off” reception on its Friday evening, as a way to give back to the community. Light food, beverages and discussion will be a part of the night where the art exhibit will be open and the UW Art Museum will host a “20/20” slide presentation featuring artists from all over the state. 

Sommers is excited, not only for the possible impact to downtown Pinedale, but for the discussions and connections to be had by local artists. 

“That dialogue and sharing is as essential for success as having the right paintbrushes,” she said.

Contribution deadline approaches for Pipeline to Miami

I have been asked to send a reminder to you all about the deadline for Pipeline to Miami. I should have mentioned this in yesterday's email, so please forgive my cluttering your Inbox.

Today only three days are left in our Pipeline to Miami fundraiser. You have helped us raise $8650, which meets our minimum of $8000 and then some. United States Artists welcomes additional support to our maximum level of $14,300, up to the midnight Dec. 12 deadline.

When you support our project through United States Artists, you are also giving to an approved, innovative nonprofit that invests in accomplished artists all over the United States -- a unique, nationwide effort to grow the arts. Pipeline Art Project therefore feels that continuing to fundraise up to our deadline is (to borrow a phrase from Mary Chapin Carpenter), "too much to expect, but not too much to ask."

Miss "V" launches her new CD at the Basin City Arts Center Nov. 11

Miss "V" The Gypsy Cowbelle announces a CD Release Party on Friday, Nov. 11, 7 p.m., at the Basin City Arts Center in Basin. "The Itinerant Lady" features songs recorded at 11 different studios around the U.S. (thus the title). Artists accompanying her on the CD include Mike Hurwitz, Liz Masterson and Richard Chon. Miss "V" will perform some of her new songs at the Basin event.

Next stop on "The Itinerant Lady" tour is the Villa Grove Cafe in Moffat, Colo., where she will perform from 5-7 p.m., on Sunday, Nov. 13.

Next stop: the Western Music Association conference in Albuquerque where she will conduct a showcase on Thursday, Nov. 17.

Opening reception for Bronwyn Minton exhibit Nov. 17 in Pinedale

Come join the celebration of the artwork of Bronwyn Minton at a reception on Thursday, November 17, 4-7 p.m., at Isabel Jewelry & Gallery, 21 N. Franklin St., Pinedale. Refreshments provided. 

Unusual small-scale porcelain sculptures and large shiny ink drawings by Bronwyn Minton will hang in the gallery through mid-January. Don't miss this opportunity to see her beautiful and subtle contemporary art.

Bronwyn Minton is an artist living and working in Jackson Hole. She has shown her work widely in America and works as the assistant curator at the National Wildlife Museum in Jackson Hole. She studied at Rhode Island School of Design and the San Francisco Art Institute. She has received numerous grants and fellowships.
