Professional theatrical agent Craig Holzberg to present master class at Casper College

Professional theatrical agent Craig Holzberg will present a free master class for those interested in professional theatre on Saturday, Nov. 17 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Thomas H. Empey Studio Theatre at Casper College.

Holzberg is president and founder of Avalon Artists Group, a full-service talent agency with offices in both New York and Los Angeles. “Avalon Artists Group represents actors and models of all ages for film, TV, theatre, commercials, voice-over, and print,” Holzberg said.

During the master class, which is free and open to the public, Holzberg “will cover what to expect, look for, and focus on in an audition for agents,” said James Olm, Casper College music theatre and voice instructor.  A question-and-answer session will follow Holzberg’s presentation.

A guest artist at Casper College, Holzberg is also the agent for another Casper College guest artist, Lindsie VanWinkle, who is playing the lead of Eva Peron in the Casper College fall musical “Evita.”

Wyoming Arts Council roster artist Katherine Palochak is teaching a metal etching class at the Lander Art Center, 224 Main St., Lander, on Saturday, Sept. 29, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Cosis $40 plus $15 for supplies, payable to instructor.

Here’s a description of the class:

Bring designs to life on metal without the use of chemicals in this half-day Saturday class! Rather than acids, iron salts are used to achieve a clean etch on just about any metal. Even the simplest drawings look amazing when done in metal. Participants will be able to create and complete several pieces in the form of their choosing such as one of a kind jewelry, mixed media pieces, personalized nameplates or whatever you can dream up! You do not need to be an artist or a metal smith to take this class! All levels are encouraged to attend. Must be 18 years and older to attend. Those who are pregnant, have liver disease or taking chemotherapy are advised not to take this class.

This Casper College multi-disciplinary, student-centered field trip encourages students to experience – through mind, body, and spirit – the backcountry of Yellowstone National Park. During daily hikes, students gather journal observations and impressions as they explore the biology and natural history of their surroundings. The experience culminates in the submission of a portfolio of nature writing, including both poetry and creative nonfiction.

"Doodle 4 Google" Feb. 25 at the Nicolaysen Art Museum in Casper

The Nicolaysen Art Museum invites Wyoming students of all ages to drop into the Discovery Center and doodle around at their special Doodle Event on February 25, 2012, from 1-4 p.m.

The museum has been chosen to team up with Google for the fifth annual Doodle 4 Google contest, which invites kindergarten through 12th-grade students nationwide to draw their rendition of the Google logo for a chance to see it displayed on the online search engine's homepage.  The doodles should reflect this year's contest theme: “If I could travel in time, I'd visit ...”   March 23^rd is the final deadline for students to submit their drawings for the contest.

“The idea is time travel, so they're using that theme to kind of guide the designs. The children can paint, draw, print, or use whatever media they want to use to create a two-dimensional image.” said Lori Klatt, the museum's Special Events Coordinator.

 “We'll have the entry forms available, all of the materials needed and we'll have artists on hand to help the children create their doodles. Students and families from throughout the community and state are invited to participate at no charge and create doodles for the competition.”

Night class on digital photography to be offered at Casper College starting Jan. 17

If you are like most people with a digital camera you have some great photos on your computer that you would like to turn into prints, but just don’t know how. It may be easier than you think, with the help of a digital photography class being offered for the spring semester at Casper College.

“Electronic Digital Photo” (ELTR 2145 01) will include the basic techniques of digital photography and an overview of what is needed to acquire, store, retouch, and print digital and hybrid photographs.

Miles Hecker, digital photography professional, will teach the class on Tuesday nights from 6 to 9. According to Hecker, students will learn the fundamentals of digital photography, how to make quality prints on their inkjet printer, how to scan their old slides and negatives, and how to master Adobe Photoshop CS skills to create better photos.

Trai Cartwright to teach advanced screenwriting class this fall at LCCC

Trai Cartwight, screenwriter and teacher, sends this news about a class she's teaching this fall at Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne:

This Advanced Screenwriting class at LCCC in the Fall 2011 class (starting Aug 24) is perfect for anyone who's either written (or partially) written a screenplay and has the format basics down. I'll demonstrate elevated formatting techniques as well as delve deeply into structure and how to bind the character's journey into the theme and story arc.  Plus we'll do some film theory to help show how film language translates to great moviemaking.  Students will write about 60 pages -- a big challenge, but a great way to really advance in a script. 

If you know anyone who'd be interested, I'd very much appreciate it if you'd forward this notice.  The class is half-full, and we cap at 15, so great one-on-one attention is promised.  My classes tend to be a great mix of people, with the common denominator being a love of the medium.
