Cheyenne Artists Guild features work by Donna Person and Dee James for Art Design and Dine

Donna Person and Dee James invite you to come by the Cheyenne Artists Guild in Holliday Park and visit with them during the December 13 Art Design and Dine. Both Dee and Donna are active in supporting the Guild.  Both serve on the board, Dee as 2012 President and Donna as Secretary. This December 13 from 5-8 pm, they will be showing some of their favorite pieces of art for this last Art Design and Dine of the 2012 season. Ginny Rowland is a long time supporter of the Cheyenne Artists Guild. Her work will be featured on Thursday, Nov. 8, from 5-8 p.m. at the newly remodeled art guild located on off of Morrie Avenue in Holladay Park. Drop in to enjoy Ginny’s art and company!

Artist Statement:

“In 1964-1968, we were in Alaska, my husband was in the Air Force. He gave me a box of oils for my birthday and I had no idea what to do with them.  The Service Club offered art lessons for $1 for 1 night per week with a local artist.  I painted for a couple of years until Bob was transferred.  We came to Cheyenne in 1973 but it wasn’t until after the flood of 1985 that I joined the Cheyenne Artists Guild.  I took a class called  Sponges and Rags from Cheyenne artist  Maryalyce Larsen.  I’ve taken several workshops at the Guild and when attending the Wyoming Artists Association Conventions I would sign up for whatever was offered.   I prefer painting in oil but the paintbox got too heavy to carry to the CAG loft where I painted each Thursday.  I joined the Weekly Art Challenge a couple of years ago and have painted  with a box of Pelikan half pans.I had a one person show at the Cheyenne Civic Center in 1994.  Was honored to sell several pieces. The first time I entered the CFD Western Spirit Show, 2000, both my 16 x 20 and miniature painting were purchased. I’ve been juried into the CAG National show twice.”

Silk painting, pastels and snowflake-making on the schedule for next Art Design & Dine

Art Design & Dine, Cheyenne's monthly in town art tour is happening on Thursday, November 8, from 5-8 p.m . Cody's Steve Schrepferman is featured artist at Clay Paper Scissors Gallery

This month we are featuring Steve Schrepferman, a Cody ceramicist, at Clay Paper Scissors in honor of National Crafts Month. Steve is a highly versatile potter with work from the gorgeously functional (drinking from one of his cups is lovely experience in balance and texture) to quirky functional to large scale urns and vases and wall hangings. The work is often thrown and then modified and always glazed with rich, deep colors. Some of the pieces in the gallery now have an almost African sense to them. My visual sensibility is rooted in the colors, textures, and rugged forms in the landscape of the American West. I am in awe of the immense vistas and canyons and feel a strong connection to the great physical and spiritual energy of this land. These are the energies I strive to capture in my work.

Art Design & Dine will be tomorrow, Thursday, Oct. 11, from 5-8 p.m. Clay Paper Scissors is located at 1506 Thomes, Ste B, at the southeast corner of the building facing the tracks. Steve's work will be up through November.

Pilchuck-trained glass artist Kathi Tarantola will talk about her work Oct. 11 at Cheyenne Artist's Guild

It’s not everyday you get to meet someone working in hand-blown glass but during the October art tour the public will get the opportunity! The Cheyenne Artist’s Guild will host the beautiful glass work of Cheyenne Artist Kathi Tarantola. Kathi recieved her BFA from the University of Wyoming and then went on to study glass at Pilchuck. Located in Seattle, it has become the leading art glass center in the country. Pilchuck, started by world famous glass artist Dale Chihuly, now teaches numerous students the fine art of glass blowing. While at Pilchuck, Kathi studied under under Lino Tagliapietra as well as a few other well know glass artists. Kathi will be on hand to talk about her work and process on Thursday, Oct 11, from 5-8 p.m., during the Art Design & Dine art walk. 

Call for entries: SculptureWalk in Sioux Falls, S.D.

SculptureWalk is an exhibit of original outdoor sculptures displayed year-round in downtown Sioux Falls, South Dakota, a progressive community of 150,000.

SculptureWalk is a 501c3 non-profit volunteer organization and all money raised goes directly into the program.

The sculptures are owned by the artists and loaned to the exhibit. This will be our 9th year.  All sculptures are insured for liability and physical damage.

We actively promote the sale of sculptures to the public, and 63 sculptures were sold and 5 commissions occurred during the first five years. Eighteen sculptures have been leased. SculptureWalk receives 25% commission on sold and commissioned works.

Sculptors may submit up to four original sculpture entries.

All SculptureWalk artists receive travel reimbursements as explained in the Call to Artists. The formula is up to 50 cents a mile round-trip if traveling to Sioux Falls, and up to $500 for shipping expenses if the sculpture is shipped to Sioux Falls. Accommodations for two nights at the Holiday Inn City Centre in downtown Sioux Falls is also provided on delivery weekend in May.

Most of the sculptures will be displayed on 3' or 4' high quartize pedestals, 25" to 60" sculptures look fantastic on these pedestals. Larger sculptures will be placed on concrete pads. We ask sculptors to secure steel plates to the bottom of the sculptures because all sculptures will be welded down for security and safety.

Our objective is to have a well balanced exhibit with all styles, types, materials and sizes of sculptures.

All sculptures need to be made of durable material for the year-long outdoor weather and constructed with safety in mind for display in a public setting.

General Information -

• Deadline - All entries must be postmarked no later than October 15, 2012. We encourage early entry.
• Originality - All entries must be original works by the submitting sculptors.
• Acceptance - The entries are selected for entry with notification of results by November 15, 2012.
• Best of Show Awards - All entries are judged for Best of Show by 3 very well known and respected art experts.
• All sculptors will receive further program information after entry is accepted.
• Each sculpture is assigned a time for plahttps://www.facebook.com/AIR.Arts.Incubatorcement. There will be a team of 4 lifters with a welder that assist the sculptor with placement. The lifters move the sculpture to the base and it is welded down. The whole process usually takes about 5-10 minutes and then the sculptor is free to enjoy the city.
• Sculptors can make arrangements for early placement if necessary.

Art, Design & Dine adds CRMC exhibit by Dr. Kevin Robinett to its Sept. 13 artwalk

Art, Design & Dine Artwalk adds a new venue this month.

The Cheyenne Regional Medical Center exhibit, “Graphic Art as a Process,” features paintings by Dr. Kevin Robinett. Dr. Robinett is a psychiatrist who has practiced medicine in Cheyenne for 16 years. His paintings will be displayed in the hospital’s north hallway through December.

Cheyenne Regional began “Art is Healing” in 2011. The series highlights artwork created by members of Cheyenne’s medical community. Dr. Robinett is the third medical professional to have artwork featured.

An artist’s reception for Dr. Robinett will be held September 13, 5 to 8 p.m., in the north hallway as part of Art, Design & Dine. The reception is open to the public, and refreshments will be served.

Clay Paper Scissors features Lotte Paul's flowers and landscapes

For those of you who have not yet seen Lotte Paul's paintings, they are still up at Clay Paper Scissors Gallery & Studio through July! Lotte painted prolifically for many years and especially loved flowers and landscapes. They are being sold for very reasonable prices. We'll be open for Art Design & Dine this Thursday, July 12, from 5-8 p.m., and we are always available by appointment at 307-631-6039.

We also have two studio spaces open. If you know someone interested in an artist workspace, access to a kiln and slab roller, interested in artistic community, send them our way!

Come to the Artful Hand Studio & Gallery in Cheyenne and try your hand at pulling a sheet of handmade paper. Georgia Rowswell will teach you the basics and then let you go for it! Lotte Paul's "Gardens & Landscapes" featured at Clay Paper Scissors Gallery

Art Design & Dine is this Thursday from 5-8 PM and Clay Paper Scissors is excited to be featuring "Gardens & Landscapes" by Lotte Paul. Lotte is a long time resident of Cheyenne who has painted prolifically for years and never shown her work. She favors watercolors, but also has some acrylics in the mix. An avid gardener, Lotte loves flowers and it shows in her paintings.

We have hung more than 150 paintings in a profusion of color and light. The paintings are unframed, leaving you to finish them to suit your tastes and home. We hope you'll come by to see the show!

The next Art Design and Dine Artwalk features "Portraits in Progress – Live painting by Forrest King"

Thursday, June 14th from 5-8 at the Ancient Sage, 1726 Capital Ave in Historic Downtown Cheyenne

Four new portraits in progress by Forrest King, two of which have not been revealed to the public, will be worked on simultaneously!

The paintings worked will be Harry P. Hynds, Alex Frye, A Little Girl Named Jayne, and Leah Zegan.

Other works in progress will also be on display, including the Battered Bride, Repression Number One, and a nameless one!

Stop by for a refreshment, and if you purchase something from the Ancient Sage you will be entered into a drawing for a “one of a kind” signed 8×10 print of your favorite Forrest King painting. (Only customers who buy during the event will be entered)

"Art is Healing" new community outreach for Cheyenne Regional Medical Center

This inaugural exhibit in this new community outreach art program is "Through the Eyes of a Chaplain," showcases mixed media by Kathleen Jacobson, as associate chaplain at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center.

From the brochure accompanying this exhibit, the artist shares her inspiration:

My paintings are based on interactions I had with patients in 2010 through 2011. They are intriguing stories that weave together patients' medical conditions and spirituality. The narratives range from spiritual awakenings to end-of-life and near-death visions. I purposely left the door open for interpretation by each viewer--so did not include the stories with the paintings. Every person sees life through the filter of his or her own unique life skills.

The exhibit will be on display in the north hallway of the medical center from December 2011-February 2012. An artist's reception will be held on December 8, from 5-8 pm, in conjunction with Cheyenne's monthly art walk, Art Design and Dine.
