POWR (Potters of the Wind River) is made up of many regional clay artists from Lander, Riverton, Rock Springs, Dubois and surrounding areas. We support one another and work toward promoting the arts in our community and beyond.
Sweetwater Studio was created by Jenny Reeves-Johnson to provide a physical space for clay art, artists gatherings, collaboration, and inspiration. The studio houses 4 working artists, Jenny Reeves-Johnson, Shawna Pickinpaugh, Stephanie Peterson and Nancy Ebert. It has become our home away from home as we inspire each other to grow as ceramic artists.

Teton Artlab presents Factory Studios, a candy factory converted into multi-use studios for creativity. Several artists and creative organizations will call this space home, including Teton Artlab, Ben Roth, Strapped Glass, TreeFight, the Deadlocks, Caldera Collective, Abbie Miller and Meg Daly.

More than 6,500 square feet of space will include a contemporary gallery, glassblowing studio, printmaking presses, and digital media lab. In addition there are 8 private studios ranging from 112 to 1,000 square feet.
Our grand opening will feature large scale art by Abbie Miller and Ben Roth, as well as an in-studio performance by The Deadlocks.
Parking is ample around the building, especially on Martin Lane around Bison Lumber. 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Free.

Clay Paper Scissors, a gallery and studio space in Cheyenne, has two open studio spaces! These two spaces are in their own room, which would be ideal for someone who wanted one larger space or for two-three people who like to work together. It has its own door, which could lock, and lots of wall space. Members have access to a kiln and slab roller, and a small proofing press. If you are interested in working in a space with other artists, while having the room to leave your work out all the time, this is for you! Right now we have a jeweler, two potters, a collager/painter and a book artist. Any medium welcome, and we are willing to consider writers, musicians, etc. Studio members regularly exhibit in the Gallery. Studio spaces are $150/month, plus a one time fee of $150. If the fee is an issue, we will work out a payment plan. We ask that studio members plan to help keep Gallery open to the public, but they are welcome to work in their own space while doing so.

Clay Paper Scissors Fall Classes
Exhibits: Our current show is called Wyoming Views and features four Laramie artists: Wendy Bredehoft, Susan Moldenhauer, Joe Arnold and Linda Lillegraven. This exhibit offers four diverse views of Wyoming through oil, pastel and photography. Susan Moldenhauer offers airy black and white photographs of the clouds and skies which contrast with Joe Arnold's detailed high-altitude paintings of the Teton valleys and mountains. Linda Lillegraven and Wendy Bredehoft's work both capture the sense of vast spaces while focusing in on intimate details of place and color. This show speaks to anyone who loves Wyoming landscapes! The show will be up September 20--November 14. There will be one more reception: Artist: November 6, 6-8 PM
Classes: We have a series of classes available! These are taught by Abi Paytoe Gbayee, one of our studio artists and a local art teacher.
Opening: November 23 will be the Clay Paper Scissors Christmas show. More on that later.
In addition, we are instituting some regular hours. As of October 1, we will be open Thursdays 4-7 PM and Saturdays 10-2. We will also be open irregularly at other times, during classes, and by appointment at 307-631-6039. We hope to see you there!

Studio Wyoming wants you!
Pinedale artist Sue Sommers has started a Facebook page called Studio Wyoming. Administrators are Susan Thulin, Jackson; Susan Moldenhauer, Laramie; Wendy Ellen Bredehoft, Laramie; and Sue. It's an open group so anyone can join, although its geared toward the visual artists in the state.

New arts building topic of UW trustees' meeting
When wyomingarts was in Laramie on Monday, University of Wyoming art department faculty members said they were excited about the proposed new arts building for the campus. It will house faculty offices, studios/classrooms and a spacious gallery, among other things. Proposed site for the new building is adjacent to the UW Art Museum. This set-up locates UW's visual arts resources in one section of the campus, which will be a boon to a fine faculty roster (many of who are WAC fellowship recipients), a burgeoning group of 230-some undergrad students, and the UW art museum and its incredible array of exhibitions. UW cut its graduate-level visual arts program some years ago, but this new complex may spur its future return.
One question: have UW budget cuts impacted this project?
All of this will be a topic at this week's UW board of trustee's meeting. These meetings are open to the public.

The University of Wyoming Board of Trustees has called a special meeting to address subjects including construction of a new arts building.
The board will meet at 11 a.m. Thursday on campus to approve the university's 2010 construction request to the state.UW wants to issue no more than $33 million in revenue bonds to fund the arts project and then pay the debt with federal mineral royalties.
The university hopes to begin constructing a new arts building next year and to begin expanding the existing Fine Arts building in 2013 to house performing arts.
The board will also consider a plan to pay $1.1 million to help construct the Intertribal Education and Community Center at Central Wyoming College in exchange for a 50-year lease for UW's Outreach School.

New Studio/Gallery to Open in Cheyenne
Two artists in Cheyenne are opening a collaborative studio space and gallery in April. Called ClayPaperScissors, it will offer space to work for 8-10 resident artists, a gallery with changing shows, classes and art sales at various times of the year.
ClayPaperScissors is currently looking for people interested in being resident artists. Interested artists may email claypaperscissors@gmail.com. We're happy to give you a tour and explain the concept in more detail. Artists must apply to participate.
