Call for entries: Wyoming Short Film Contest

The Wyoming Film Office is taking submissions for the annual Wyoming Short Film Contest.  To be eligible, films must be under fifteen minutes, shot in Wyoming, set in Wyoming, or include Wyoming as a character.  The winner will receive a $25,000 prize, for use on their next film shot in Wyoming.       

Film Office spokesman Colin Stricklin says Wyoming offers financial incentives for large-scale productions that shoot in the state, but he says this contest is meant to encourage smaller productions – even amateur films.    “Not everybody has a budget of $200,000,” Stricklin says, “so for those filmmakers that can’t quite hit our film incentive, we instituted this contest as a means to give something back.  The idea being that the $25,000 grand prize can go a long way toward an indie’s production budget.”    

The winning film will premiere at the Cheyenne International Film Festival in May.  Submissions are due April fifth.  There are no entry fees for this competition.

Made in Wyoming Chamber Music announces composition contest

Made in Wyoming Chamber Music is pleased to announce a composition contest for residents of Cheyenne and Laramie County. The contest has two divisions: student and adult. The student category includes junior and senior high students. The adult division includes college students and other adults.

There will be two winners in each division, and a fifty dollar prize will be awarded to each of the four winning composers. The winning compositions will be performed at the open rehearsal for the Made in Wyoming concert, Saturday, May 11, 2013 as well as the concert on Sunday, May 12, 2013.

Compositions submitted are to be between four and six minutes in length, and are to be for woodwind quintet (flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, French horn). Compositions must have been never performed, recorded, or distributed in public. Made in Wyoming reserves the right for first public performance, but copyright remains with the composers. Decisions of the judges will be final.

Compositions must be typeset with a program such as Finale or Sibelius. Submissions include a copy of the score and parts identified by title only, and without the name of the composer appearing on any of the music, as well as an mp3 digital recording of the composition identified only by the title of the composition.

Composers should include the following information on a separate piece of paper: their name, the title of their composition and its length, which division they are entering (and where they attend school, with their music teacher’s name if they are entering the student division), and contact information (address, contact telephone, email address).

Call for applications: Rosemary Kennedy Internship Initiative

The 2013 Rosemary Kennedy Internship Initiative is now open and accepting applications from qualified organizations. This initiative provides funding of up to $25,000 to arts organizations, from across the country, to initiate internship and apprenticeship programs for youth with disabilities that provide pre-professional skill development in the fields of arts, arts management and arts education.

Wyoming Arts Council artist roster application is now available online

The Wyoming Arts Council accepts applications annually for its artist roster. Artists and arts groups in the literary, performing and visual arts can now apply online via the CaFÉ (Call for Entry) program of the Western States Arts Federation. Folk artists may apply in any of these categories.

The WAC has extended the application deadline to Jan. 7, 2013.

Wyoming residents can register for CaFÉ for free at http://www.callforentry.org. Once registered, look up the call name of “Wyoming Arts Council Artist Roster” to begin the process.

The WAC roster seeks to value artistic excellence through the selected artists, and to engage the public as patrons and advocates for the arts. Roster artists not only represent artistic excellence, but also become ambassadors for the WAC, and are a form of dynamic public art. Organizations, schools and festival presenters can write Artists Across Wyoming grants to bring these artists to their communities.

Attention Wyoming photographers: It’s time again to don your winter clothing, go outside and capture the beauty of Wyoming for the glory of winning WyoFile’s annual Cold Snap Challenge!

This year, we’re looking for shots of Wyoming that include the state’s many incarnations of energy and energy development. You can shoot drilling derricks, pipe-yard workers, transmission wires, coal trains, geologists alone in the field or cattle grazing under a wind turbine — anything that says Wyoming and energy. WyoFile staff will pick one photo as our WyoFile Winter Snap champion, and the winner will receive a Flickr Pro account and $50!

WyoFile will accept submissions for the Winter Snap Challenge through midnight on Tuesday, December 18. All photos should be sent to erik@wyofile.com with “Focus on Energy” in the subject line. Contestants are free to submit as many photos as they like during the three-week contest. Applications for spring 2013 art exhibitions at the University of Wyoming Gallery 234 will be accepted through 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4.All UW faculty, staff and students can apply. For an application, go to www.uwyo.edu/union/cac/gallery234/ and click on “exhibit application.” Applications can be submitted to the UW Campus Activities Center.

Gallery 234 is an educational gallery that provides a space for “creative and critical expression of the visual arts,” as well as offer “exhibitions of social responsibility and artistic substance” for the university. The gallery has hosted a variety of exhibitions this semester.

“Photographs are a common medium, but other media such as comic-book style storytelling, drawing and sculptures have been represented in the gallery,” says Ashley Dallum, the Gallery 234 coordinator.

Call for entries: Carbon County Museum

From the Carbon County Museum in Rawlins:

Carbon County Museum seeks photograph submissions of a local landscape, preferably in Carbon County. Photos taken in the neighboring region and resembling the local landscape of Carbon County will be considered as well.

One image will be chosen, printed, and used as a high-quality, large-scale wall mural; it will be installed in the Discovery Zone, a new children’s room and exhibit space at the museum.

Deadline:  October 29, 2012 (Artists will be notified by November 6, 2012).

Requirements:

The selected image will be a high desert/prairie scene with no signs of modern life, man-made development, or people.

The image must be available as a high resolution digital file (minimum 6000 x 8400 pixels or 6 megapixels) or as a high quality digital print at least 5 x 7 inches large.

Eligibility:

This is a free opportunity open to all artists. Artists currently attending high school or college are also encouraged to submit. Wyoming artists with ties to Carbon County are preferred.

How to apply:

Email up to 3 images (total size of all attachments no more than 10 MB, please—submissions need not be high-res) to Stacy Fevinger at curator@carboncountymuseum.org. Include a brief description of where each photo was taken, and your city and state of residence. If you do not live in Wyoming, you may include a brief description of any relationship you have to the state and/or Carbon County.

Award:

The artist chosen will receive a $150 honorarium and acknowledgement on relevant exhibit labels. They will be recognized at an opening reception held for the new exhibit space, and promoted via the museum’s usual channels, including radio, newspaper, web, and social media. The image chosen will be a long-term (minimum 1-year) installation in the museum.  

Rights:

The chosen image will be considered a donation to the museum’s permanent collection and retained subject to the museum’s Collections Policy (available on request). If the image is submitted as a print, that copy will remain property of Carbon County Museum. Carbon County Museum will have multiple use, non-exclusive rights to the image and may alter the image as it sees fit to meet the needs of exhibit installation and for promotional purposes.

Required instrumentation:

· Piano Length: 10-15 minutes
Score: Each composer must submit a legible score of professional quality with individual parts for flute and saxophone. No marks identifying the composer should appear anywhere on the score. A supporting recording (CD only) is helpful but not required. MIDI realizations are acceptable.
Number of entries: Composers may submit as many entries as they like following these guidelines for each composition.
Returning materials: If you would like your score and recording returned, please enclose a self-addressed envelope with correct US postage.

Judging
All compositions will be judged by a committee comprised of Verismo Trio, the president of Wyoming Music Teacher’s Association, and one outside musician in a reading session with Verismo Trio.

Registration fee
Thanks to this generous donation from Wyoming Music Teacher’s Association, there is no registration fee.

Call for entries: SculptureWalk in Sioux Falls, S.D.

SculptureWalk is an exhibit of original outdoor sculptures displayed year-round in downtown Sioux Falls, South Dakota, a progressive community of 150,000.

SculptureWalk is a 501c3 non-profit volunteer organization and all money raised goes directly into the program.

The sculptures are owned by the artists and loaned to the exhibit. This will be our 9th year.  All sculptures are insured for liability and physical damage.

We actively promote the sale of sculptures to the public, and 63 sculptures were sold and 5 commissions occurred during the first five years. Eighteen sculptures have been leased. SculptureWalk receives 25% commission on sold and commissioned works.

Sculptors may submit up to four original sculpture entries.

All SculptureWalk artists receive travel reimbursements as explained in the Call to Artists. The formula is up to 50 cents a mile round-trip if traveling to Sioux Falls, and up to $500 for shipping expenses if the sculpture is shipped to Sioux Falls. Accommodations for two nights at the Holiday Inn City Centre in downtown Sioux Falls is also provided on delivery weekend in May.

Most of the sculptures will be displayed on 3' or 4' high quartize pedestals, 25" to 60" sculptures look fantastic on these pedestals. Larger sculptures will be placed on concrete pads. We ask sculptors to secure steel plates to the bottom of the sculptures because all sculptures will be welded down for security and safety.

Our objective is to have a well balanced exhibit with all styles, types, materials and sizes of sculptures.

All sculptures need to be made of durable material for the year-long outdoor weather and constructed with safety in mind for display in a public setting.

General Information -

• Deadline - All entries must be postmarked no later than October 15, 2012. We encourage early entry.
• Originality - All entries must be original works by the submitting sculptors.
• Acceptance - The entries are selected for entry with notification of results by November 15, 2012.
• Best of Show Awards - All entries are judged for Best of Show by 3 very well known and respected art experts.
• All sculptors will receive further program information after entry is accepted.
• Each sculpture is assigned a time for plahttps://www.facebook.com/AIR.Arts.Incubatorcement. There will be a team of 4 lifters with a welder that assist the sculptor with placement. The lifters move the sculpture to the base and it is welded down. The whole process usually takes about 5-10 minutes and then the sculptor is free to enjoy the city.
• Sculptors can make arrangements for early placement if necessary.

Call for entries: CWC Health and Science Center public art project

The Art in Public Buildings program is issuing a call for artists for the Central Wyoming College Health and Science Center in Riverton. This is a national call for proposals with a deadline of Nov. 30, 2012.

Central Wyoming College has a standing history of nonrepresentational public art projects on campus. Therefore both traditional and nonrepresentational themes are appropriate. Themes for art proposals for the Health and Science Center may include references to the region’s cultural and natural history, the geological timeline, education, the natural sciences, health care, health sciences and the environment. Artists are encouraged to consider incorporating sustainable and recycled materials in their compositions. Proposed concepts should not be structural in nature or impact the architectural integrity of the facility.

The College’s service area encompasses one of the largest American Indian populations in the United States. Both the Northern Arapaho and the Eastern Shoshone reside on the Wind River Indian Reservation, one of the most geographically isolated regions of the West. There is also a significant Hispanic population in the area. Central Wyoming College provides a great many residents of these communities an opportunity for post-secondary educational services.

The Art in Public Buildings Project Committee has identified several potential installation sites. The exterior plaza on the north side of the building is the primary outdoor location. On the interior, the two expansive upper gallery wall surfaces of the West Lobby/Gallery (east and west wall surfaces) are the primary locations. Additional locations include the recessed radius rear wall of the auditorium, the two large niches of the West Lobby within the open balcony light wells, the secondary East Lobby/Gallery and the associated balcony light well and stairwell shaft, and the wall spaces between the classroom doors of the main east-west building corridor. Any work proposed for the exterior plaza must take into consideration the environmental extremes of the region, especially temperature fluctuations and wind force.

All styles, conceptual approaches and mediums are encouraged. Proposed artwork should enhance the architectural elements and visually extend the presence and purpose of the Health and Science Center, melding art, science and education. All proposed artwork must be durable, structurally sound, secure, site appropriate and easy to maintain.
