Call for entries from our southern neighbors in Loveland, Colo.:

We are currently looking for artists to submit their photos, conceptual sketches and art work for the 2nd Annual Love + Light at the Loveland, Colo., Feed and Grain. Artists are invited to show work that speaks to love or light in a contemporary way, paying tribute to Loveland’s rich cultural history in the fine arts and Valentine’s Day traditions.

All work must reflect the artists vision of love and light. We are looking for video artists, photographers, sculptors, installation artists and all other media. See samples here.

Call for applications: UW Gallery 234

From a University of Wyoming press release:

Applications for spring 2013 art exhibitions at the University of Wyoming Gallery 234 will be accepted through 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4.All UW faculty, staff and students can apply. For an application, go to www.uwyo.edu/union/cac/gallery234/ and click on “exhibit application.” Applications can be submitted to the UW Campus Activities Center.

Gallery 234 is an educational gallery that provides a space for “creative and critical expression of the visual arts,” as well as offer “exhibitions of social responsibility and artistic substance” for the university. The gallery has hosted a variety of exhibitions this semester.

“Photographs are a common medium, but other media such as comic-book style storytelling, drawing and sculptures have been represented in the gallery,” says Ashley Dallum, the Gallery 234 coordinator.

Sean Hart's new Laramie co-op gallery is looking for artists

Painter Sean Hart has a gallery at 404 S. 2nd St. in downtown Laramie. It's called 2 Bazaar Gallery. He is opening another space. He describes his plans this way:

We own another building in downtown Laramie that has been vacant for over a year and I want to open it up to artists as a gallery based on a co-op model. There is about 5,400 square feet on two floors. The second floor has a stage, lighting and sound system and possible artist studio spaces. The university and others have done plays and events there. I am not doing this to make money. It is just that the space has been empty and I have done art shows and sales there with some success. Here is my plan as I see it now. I am open to suggestions and ideas. 

I plan to charge an 18 percent commission on sales. This is what I figure it will cost for insurance, utilities, credit card fees, maintenance etc. Each artist will be required to open the gallery on a Saturday on a rotating basis. If we have 12 artists that would be once every three months. We will set up a studio space in the front window where they can work on art pieces while they run the gallery.

In the beginning we will need to advertise. A 3x4 inch ad in the Laramie Boomerang newspaper is about $60.If 12 artists contribute, that's only five dollars each. Once a month or maybe twice a month we will have an artist reception with featured artists. 

The building is ready to begin accepting art and could be open soon with just four artists to start as early as Saturday, Oct. 20. We plan a big holiday sale.

Call for entries: CWC Health and Science Center public art project

The Art in Public Buildings program is issuing a call for artists for the Central Wyoming College Health and Science Center in Riverton. This is a national call for proposals with a deadline of Nov. 30, 2012.

Central Wyoming College has a standing history of nonrepresentational public art projects on campus. Therefore both traditional and nonrepresentational themes are appropriate. Themes for art proposals for the Health and Science Center may include references to the region’s cultural and natural history, the geological timeline, education, the natural sciences, health care, health sciences and the environment. Artists are encouraged to consider incorporating sustainable and recycled materials in their compositions. Proposed concepts should not be structural in nature or impact the architectural integrity of the facility.

The College’s service area encompasses one of the largest American Indian populations in the United States. Both the Northern Arapaho and the Eastern Shoshone reside on the Wind River Indian Reservation, one of the most geographically isolated regions of the West. There is also a significant Hispanic population in the area. Central Wyoming College provides a great many residents of these communities an opportunity for post-secondary educational services.

The Art in Public Buildings Project Committee has identified several potential installation sites. The exterior plaza on the north side of the building is the primary outdoor location. On the interior, the two expansive upper gallery wall surfaces of the West Lobby/Gallery (east and west wall surfaces) are the primary locations. Additional locations include the recessed radius rear wall of the auditorium, the two large niches of the West Lobby within the open balcony light wells, the secondary East Lobby/Gallery and the associated balcony light well and stairwell shaft, and the wall spaces between the classroom doors of the main east-west building corridor. Any work proposed for the exterior plaza must take into consideration the environmental extremes of the region, especially temperature fluctuations and wind force.

All styles, conceptual approaches and mediums are encouraged. Proposed artwork should enhance the architectural elements and visually extend the presence and purpose of the Health and Science Center, melding art, science and education. All proposed artwork must be durable, structurally sound, secure, site appropriate and easy to maintain.

Call for applications: Creative Fusion residency program in Cleveland

Creative Fusion is an urban-based artist residency and Fellowship initiative of the Cleveland Foundation, the United States' oldest community foundation. It provides support for local cultural institutions to host international artists who have been awarded Fellowships though the Creative Fusion program's selection process. The award includes a four month residency in Cleveland, which provides the visiting artist-Fellow with opportunities to undertake innovative work in his/her discipline while making strong connections and exchanges with local artists, diverse young persons and with the greater Cleveland community.

Twelve artists are in residency annually each hosted by a local cultural institution during two four-month residency periods which take place in Spring (March-June) and Fall (August-November). The program is focused on artists from non-western European countries who can bring a contemporary view of their culture through their art making process to the Greater Cleveland community. Artistic excellence, the desire to be part of an engaged residency program with a focus on working with young persons and dialoging and creative exchange with local artists will be key criteria for selection.

Call for applications: USArtists International

From USArtists International:

The guidelines and new online application are now available for the 2013 USArtists International (USAI) program. USAI provides support for American dance, music, and theater ensembles and solo artists invited to perform at significant international festivals or engagements that represent extraordinary career opportunities anywhere in the world outside the United States and its territories.

The application deadline for the first of three grant rounds of the 2013 program will be Friday, September 7, 2012 for projects taking place between November 1, 2012 and October 31, 2013. This is a receipt deadline.

Additional deadlines for the 2013 program cycle include:

• December 7, 2012 for projects taking place between March 1, 2013and February 28, 2014
   
• April 19, 2013 for projects taking place between July 1, 2013 andJune 30, 2014

Ruminate Magazine: "Chewing on Life, Art and Faith" announces the 2012 Kalos Foundation Visual Art Prize. This year's competition will be juried by award-winning artist Bruce Herman. First place winner will receive a $2500 cash prize along with publication in Issue #26 of Ruminate Magazine (set to release in mid-December 2013). Runner-up recipient will also be published in Issue #26. The prize is open to all mediums and artists of all levels; no geographical restrictions. Entry Fee: $20 Entry fee also includes a complimentary copy of Issue #26.

Call for entries: "Embracing our Differences"

"Embracing Our Differences" invites art submissions for its 10th annual outdoor art exhibit celebrating diversity. National and international submissions are encouraged. 39 artists will be selected for the exhibit. The exhibit will be displayed April and May 2013 at Island Park along Sarasota, Florida’s beautiful bayfront. Since 2004, the exhibit has been viewed by more than 1,300,000 visitors. The exhibit will contain 38 billboard-sized (16 feet wide by 12 1/2 feet high) images of the selected artworks.

Final selections will be chosen based on artistic excellence in reflection of the theme “embracing our differences”. Submissions will also be evaluated on how effectively it will read outdoors when enlarged to billboard size. Final selections will be made by a 3-judge panel of professional artists, curators and art professionals. A total of $3,000.00 in awards will be presented.

Submissions must be postmarked no later than January 7, 2013. There is no submission fee nor limit on the number of entries.

The mission of Embracing Our Differences is to use art as a catalyst for creating awareness and promoting the value of diversity, the benefits of inclusion and the significance of the active rejection of hatred and prejudice.

Call for entries: "Politicizing Aesthetics" at USD Galleries

The University Art Galleries (UAG) at the University of South Dakota invites all professional artists and students enrolled in graduate programs to submit entries to “Politicizing Aesthetics,” a national juried exhibition. Contemporary, original artworks in new media, installation, film, print, sculpture, ceramics, painting, handmade artist books, photography, and fiber are welcome. We are looking for works that address current political and social issues, such as debt, war, human rights, and land rights; works that explore the body politic; works that examine the relationship between politics and aesthetic form; and works that explore the relationship between political choices and aesthetic taste. Artists should submit a CD, readable on a PC and Mac, containing JPEG images for up to 3 works with one image per piece. Call for proposals: City of Ketchum, Idaho, public art project

The City of Ketchum’s Ketchum Arts Commission (KAC) invites artists to apply for a public art project for vinyl images of original art to be applied (wrapped) on selected utility boxes located throughout the city. The intention of the project is to use utility boxes as canvases to further enliven the city with art.

Rochester Contemporary Art Center's (RoCo) invites you and your constituents to participate in the international small art phenomenon which yields thousands of original artworks, made and donated by celebrities, international & local artists, designers, college students, youths, and YOU. Each artwork must be 6x6 square inches (15x15cm) or mounted to a 6x6 board, and signed only on the back, to be exhibited anonymously. All entries will be accepted, exhibited and will be for sale to the public for $20 each (in the gallery and online for global purchasing) to benefit RoCo. Artist names will be revealed to the buyer upon purchase and all artworks remain on display through July 15th. Sold Out artists' names will be revealed next to their work on July 6. Anyone may enter up to 10 artworks of any medium (2D or 3D) and there is no fee to enter the exhibition.

Last year’s exhibition included 5,000 artworks by 2,000 artists from 50 US states and 36 countries! Over 7,000 people attended 6x6x2011 and over 1,700 artworks were sold! Past contributors have included Bill Viola, Dexter Dalwood, Jerry Uelsmann, Wendell Castle, and many more. This year’s exhibition will introduce the new RPO Bravo Award (A collaboration with Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra) for which all entries will be eligible. Call for entries: Wyoming Short Film Contest

For the fifth year running, the Wyoming Film Office is seeking submissions for the Wyoming Short Film Contest. Film makers can submit their videos online at www.wyomingshortfilmcontest.com by April 4, 2012.  A $25,000 first prize will be awarded to the winning entry with a storyline that takes place in Wyoming, features Wyoming, or presents the state as a major character.

Colin Stricklin, Film Office Specialist explains the process, “There are three stages to the contest that allows for more public involvement and engagement. The submission round, the public voting round, and the judges' panel round. After the submission round ends, all entries will go on to public voting. The ten short films with the most votes become finalists. Our judges' panel will review these finalists and select the ultimate winner.”  

The judging panel is made up of film production, visual arts and industry representatives and they will judge the entries based on certain criteria including cinematography, screenplay, acting, sound design, editing and overall production value.

Call for proposals: Durango, Colo., public art project

The City of Durango invites interested artists or groups of artist to submit qualifications and artwork proposals for original three-dimensional artwork to be installed in the roundabout at the intersection of Florida Road and Riverview Drive (in the center of the roundabout). The purpose of this public art installation is to commemorate the legacy of cycling in Durango, including the city's recent selection as the overall start city for the 2012 USA Pro Cycling Challenge, which will commence on August 20, 2012. Therefore, artwork of a cycling or kinetic theme is sought. The final proposal selected will become a part of the City's permanent public art collection. Open to artists in Mountain West states. Science plays a profound role in our daily lives in ways that we can scarcely imagine, from the infinitesimal to the infinite. This year, to recognize media that best depicts the wonders of science to a broad audience, we are delighted to announce the inaugural Jackson Hole Science Media Awards! 

Encouraging the development of compelling media that best translate the complexities of science to the public, the Awards will provide a forum to connect influential media professionals with leading scientists from around the world, and showcase finalists and award winners at the 2012 Symposium as well as other public and industry events. 

With 17 award categories for competition as well as Best of Festival and Special Jury awards, eligible programs may be of any length, may originate in any format (including animation) and be produced for theatrical, television broadcast, internet, institutional or public media distribution. Submissions must be completed between June 1, 2010 & May 31, 2012, but need not have been broadcast or publicly exhibited. 

The deadline for submission is June 1, 2012. All submissions will be uploaded electronically to a secure and protected website to keep the competition as environmentally friendly as possible, and ensure the broadest participation of international jurors during the preliminary judging phase. Call for applications: Lander Art Center

The Lander Art Center has a new application process for professional and emerging artists to apply for an exhibition in the gallery space.

Exhibitions are scheduled about a year in advance and applications are accepted year-round.

Applications will be reviewed by the Lander Art Center Exhibition Committee and selected based on quality, variety of medium, interest, and gallery space and time criteria.

The application requirements consist of an artist biography, exhibition proposal, artist statement, 10 digital images, an itemized image list, resume, and application fee.
